worth the wait | montgomery county newborn photographer

This is Kieran, and like most all newborns, he operates on his own schedule. From what I understand, he kept his parents waiting when he was trying to be conceived, he kept his Mom waiting several days past his due date (despite being predicted to arrive several weeks early), and he certainly kept a certain photographer waiting for him to fall asleep both in the studio and then later outside, when we decided that might be the best place for him to sleep to be photographed. Never wanting to be left out, Mother Nature got in on the “waiting” action when we scheduled the outdoor segment last week, and rain ruined our plans and pushed our session to this week.

Still in all, I will certainly attest to the wait being worth it (and from his parents’ obvious smitteness, I’d say they think the wait was worth it, too.)

Congratulations Michele & Chris! All of my best to you guys, and many thanks again for your patience. xox

Jen running behind on blogging + a very agreeable and adorable little baby boy = lots of pictures to share!

Thanks for waiting for the long overdue sneak peek, Julia & Dennis!

sharing birthdays | reading and berks county newborn photographer

Logan arrived on one of the most wonderful days of the whole year: June 4th–the day my daughter, also a firstborn, was born. Besides sharing a birthday, he and my daughter also share being born with a cute full head of hair and that adorable wrinkle across the bridge of their nose (which disappears way too soon, sadly).

Congratulations guys! I’ll think of you always on my daughter’s birthday. :)

Who is just a beautiful little baby boy…

emily | reading and berks county newborn photographer

One of the awesomest (yes, it’s a word, no matter what my spell check says) parts of my job this past year has been meeting quite a few new additions to families I’ve worked with in the past. Emily is the little sister of Ava, who I photographed both as a newborn and also last summer at the beach. (You can see her sessions here and here.)

Now I know that few hours I spend photographing newborns doesn’t really say everything about their personality or temperament, but Ava was one of the easiest babies to date that I’ve ever worked with. So knowing how different my kids were/are from one another, I was totally expecting a more challenging session with Emily thinking that no family ever gets *that* lucky to have two easy-going babies. To my pleasant surprise, Emily was as much of a photographer’s dream as her sister. Perhaps there’s something extra special in their DNA that makes such agreeable and beautiful babies!

Congrats again, Joey & Kelli! All my best to you and much, much love.

Love those baby smiles caught on camera…

And because I couldn’t resist taking one of Ava…

This is Jakob. A.K.A. The Boy Who Doesn’t Like to Wait.

Seems he wanted to greet the world so quickly that he arrived 3 weeks before his due date AND so quickly that his mom wasn’t able to get the epidural she wanted.

For our session, I might say he had a similar disposition as I would finally get him to sleep, get him *just about* posed, and he’d twitch or suddenly be startled, fall out of position, and wake up and we’d have to start all over again. I’d say it became evident as our session wore into the 5th hour that he had no patience for me or my photography antics.

Still in all, isn’t he a complete cutie? And definitely, good looks run in his family as his brother is just one of my most favorite little guys to photograph.

Thanks so much Kevin & Kami, and congratulations again!

olivia | berks & montgomery county newborn photographer

For most modern-style newborn photographers, we usually encourage parents to get their babies to us, uh, maybe on the way home from the hospital? (I kid, kinda. ;) It’s during these first few days of life that newborns are still curled in the fetal position and spend most of their time being in a very deep sleep, which allows me to manipulate and pose them in all of the adorable positions that represent my work.

So when Olivia’s parents called to ask me to photograph her and then told me that she’d be nearly 6 weeks old when we met (which is like a collecting-Social-Security newborn for a photographer!), I must admit that in the back of my mind, I was unsure if the session would work out or would take on the characteristics of a newborn session–in other words, if she’d still fall into sleep deep enough that I could pose her without disturbing her since older newborns typically do disturb and wake a little easier than “fresh” newborns.

To my pleasant surprise, Olivia was just as easy as 6-day-old. And better able to focus on the camera, so we got some amazing eye contact, to boot.

Thank you so much for such a fun day yesterday, Lisa & Matt! Congratulations again, and enjoy!

I must admit, there’s nothing quite like a baby with a full head of hair to make my heart skip a few beats. My daughter had a crazy head of hair when she was first born (still does), and while I hate making a big deal out “all of that hair!” (since I am sure that his parents will hear this more than anything else all throughout his babyhood), I must admit that it seemed almost a shame to put the cute bear hat on him, hiding his gorgeous locks.

Congrats again, Melissa & John on your gorgeous son!

Jillian @ the GoggleWorks | Reading and Berks County newborn photographer

Jillian is the first newborn I was so, so, so lucky to photograph in my newly-expanded newborn and baby studio at the GoggleWorks. (Luckily, her parents were great sports about working with me there, too, because my contractor was running behind, and it was not entirely finished when we met. They were kind enough to ignore the piles of hardwood flooring, tape all over my walls for painting, and numerous other “pardon me moving” chaos.) Thankfully, babies are little and don’t require much space for photography sessions–it’s amazing how you can push a mess off to one corner and still make images that project calmness and serenity!

I am so excited about the beautiful natural light that fills my studio, though Jillian was definitely the most beautiful thing in there that day. Isn’t she gorgeous?

oh baby! | pennsylvania newborn photographer

Last weekend, I was so lucky to be a part of a small workshop with two of America’s most noted newborn photographers. I learned some amazing tips and techniques, both with working with and posing newborns, but also creating beautiful color and black & white portraits. Since I’m working on catching up editing client sessions, I couldn’t edit too many images from the workshop as of yet, but here are a few portraits that I was just dying to blog that I took during our instruction and edited on the plane on the way home.

Suffice to say, I can’t wait for my next newborn session to try out some of my new tips and tricks.
