For the seemingly 20th time this year, I’m pretty behind in blogging as I stay on top of appointments, orders and proofing, but I just had to put something very autumnal on the blog to mark the change of the season, and make a couple scheduling announcements. I promise by the time 2010 ends, everyone who’s had a session with me this year (and is cool about being on the blog) will make an appearance. :)

Yesterday, before we started this part of the session, I was the first to say that I’ve had a lot of failed throwing-leaves-in-the-air attempts. It’s not as easy to get a keeper as you might think: A clump of leaves might be in front of someone’s face at the moment you press the shutter, for example. So I tried this without any great expectations, but do happen to love the results–and the light!–in this particular frame.

And because I love this one, too: a happy moment with Mom:

I’ve been pretty lucky with the weather this year and left the week of the 15th open for reschedules, which, knock on wood, I don’t think I’m going to need to do. If you would like to take advantage of the beautiful fall scenery for your portraits and have your cards and prints back in time for the holiday season, I should be able to accommodate 2-3 appointments that week (either full length or minis). Framed portraits of your kids and your family make perfect gifts for those hard-to-shop-for-have-everything grandparents! Please call 610-223-9700 for availability.

Also, for those very last minute holiday card procrastinators, I will be opening up a few appointments in December at the studio for sitting babies and kids only. Details to soon follow! :)

If you’ve followed my work for a few years, you’ll recognize these guys. :) I’m always honored every year when they ask me to photograph their family, and this year, I was truly excited to make the trek up to their new home that was recently completed, which I blogged about all the way back in 2007 when I first worked with them. Back then, they were in the midst of never-ending construction, and as I toured through the skeleton of their would-be house, I imagined that it was going to be an amazing home once completed. Nestled high on top of a mountain, it once served as a hunting cabin; now, it’s an indescribable retreat that overlooks Luzerne county. Truly, I don’t think I’d ever feel the need for a vacation if it were my own. (Well, maybe in winter… ;)

Since our last few sessions have been done here in the Reading area, it felt perfect to finally make some portraits of them in the beautiful surroundings around their long-awaited, gorgeous home.

“Earlier this summer, I worked with this fabulous family of four…”

(Well, like 70% of college grads, I’m doing something unrelated to my degree, so I can break rules, right? ;)

*gasp* (<– that was me coming up for air. ;)

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger–my apologies for all of those who are waiting for sneak peeks. The transition back to school has thrown a bit of a monkey wrench into my sitting schedule and I’m currently looking for a second person to help fill some gaps in my day with my little guy (hint, hint–if you know of anyone who would love keeping an eye on an energetic almost-4-year-old boy, send ‘em my way!) In any case, blogging is what’s taken the backseat while I keep up with clients and orders.

This session is from a few weeks ago, and Leah was really not too terribly thrilled to be photographed. But how I really loved working with her (who could not instantly fall in love with those curls and brown eyes?!) But despite our challenges, I think it turned out to be a beautiful session. (And I must admit that I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I get an awesome session out of a “harder” subject… ;)

Our annual trek to Cape May recently ended (*sniff*), but while we were on vacation, I was excited to meet with Jess & Dave and their boys, who are all lifelong natives of Avalon, to photograph their family. The night we got together for our brief session was rather hectic and crazed with thunder rumbling in the background and overcast skies (and the radar) promising an imminent downpour and storm. As such, Jess suggested a little out-of-the-way boardwalk sanctuary right by the lighthouse so that we could run back to the car quickly just in case it started raining near the end of our session (which it did ;).

Back here at home, I got a chance to really start going through her session, and I had to chuckle a little as the portraits don’t look very “beachy” for them being taken just a few steps from the shoreline. But I suppose if you’re from the shore, chances are the sand and the surf may look just as commonplace as grass and trees to us. Ah, what a wonderful life that must be to never leave vacation! :)

This is Holden, and he’s the son of a photographer. Like many photographers’ children, he has a severe case of PCS (photographer’s child syndrome). For those of you unaware of PCS, it’s a very real condition–as any photographer will tell you–which includes severe aversion to looking at the camera, and general anxiety and unsmiling-ness whenever a camera is pointed towards them, often resulting in running in the opposite direction. Amazingly, this condition–while not contagious–often does cause symptoms in parents, primarily frustration that they can’t take pictures of their own children. (If you happen to walk by my studio close to Christmas, and hear me crying, that would be because it’s the one time a year that I force my own kids to have pictures with me, and it often doesn’t go very well….. :)

The cure for PCS? Getting someone other than mom or dad to take the pictures–as well as a ton of fun on a summer morning splashing in the lake and getting sand between the toes!

There are some kids that are just *so* darn easy to photograph that you almost feel guilty getting paid to do it. Ethan was one of those: just an adorable little guy filled with tons of smiles. I had such a great time meeting him and his family and romping on his grandparent’s beautiful farm.
