First up is Anna, who traveled to me all the way from middle of Delaware–even staying a night in a hotel so that they could be to their session early (which was a huge, huge honor!) When her mom was nearing the end of her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with an IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction–essentially, a baby who is not growing as big as she should be for her gestational age for either a known or unknown reason) and Anna was delivered a few weeks early so she could begin eating and packing on weight on the outside. She spent a few weeks in the NICU, but arrived healthy and beautiful to our session a few weeks ago. Apparently, whatever was causing her IUGR certainly had absolutely no effect on her hair and eyelashes–can you get over how long and beautiful they both are!

Certainly, a baby who’s loved by both her parents and her adoring big sister. Congratulations guys! And many thanks for coming all the way to see me to take Anna’s first portraits–it was truly an honor!

One of the best parts of my job is the initial call that clients make to me when we’re getting to know each other better and I’m starting to visualize and plan how I’d like to work with them. At some point when we’re talking, if the subject doesn’t come up on its own, I always try to ask, “Why did you choose to have your family photographed during this time?” Rebecca had an answer I didn’t expect to hear: Her and her husband didn’t think it was possible for them to conceive, so 9 years ago, they adopted two amazing kids (who are 2 months apart). Their kids have grown into those middle-childhood years filled with sports and activities and friends, and suddenly, a very sweet surprise: Rebecca was pregnant.

Clearly, their family is filled with joyful anticipation of the imminent arrival of their new son and brother. (And may I say I only wish I looked this amazing during my last month of pregnancy?!)

Congratulations guys! I can’t wait to meet your newest member of your family when he’s born.

(and because it was impossible to not take a few pictures of the soon-to-be-big siblings….)

But our friends have decided instead to embrace it. Seems as though they have little choice. ;)

Since our last few sessions have been done here in the Reading area, it felt perfect to finally make some portraits of them in the beautiful surroundings around their long-awaited, gorgeous home.

(Well, like 70% of college grads, I’m doing something unrelated to my degree, so I can break rules, right? ;)

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger–my apologies for all of those who are waiting for sneak peeks. The transition back to school has thrown a bit of a monkey wrench into my sitting schedule and I’m currently looking for a second person to help fill some gaps in my day with my little guy (hint, hint–if you know of anyone who would love keeping an eye on an energetic almost-4-year-old boy, send ‘em my way!) In any case, blogging is what’s taken the backseat while I keep up with clients and orders.

This session is from a few weeks ago, and Leah was really not too terribly thrilled to be photographed. But how I really loved working with her (who could not instantly fall in love with those curls and brown eyes?!) But despite our challenges, I think it turned out to be a beautiful session. (And I must admit that I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I get an awesome session out of a “harder” subject… ;)
