Two weeks doesn’t mean much to most of us. It’s a rather short and mostly insignificant period of time. Yet, for Maggie, she owes her very existence to two weeks: Born at 26 weeks’ gestation, if Maggie would have arrived two weeks earlier, she probably wouldn’t have been able to survive, much less thrive and grow into the strong, beautiful 14 month old she is today.
Truly, a Miraculous Maggie. :)

Up to recently, my business hasn’t centered around working with a ton of teens, so Meghan and Amanda, BFFs since “in utero,” were a nice change of pace from chasing toddlers around a park (as much as I love chasing toddlers around a park :). Meghan, the blonde, is my niece (well, technically my husband’s cousin’s daughter–but I consider her my niece), and I’ve known her since, well, I could chase her as a toddler around a park. She served as the cutest flower girl ever during my wedding, and I had to pause yesterday during the session and catch my breath: It’s so amazing to see her on the verge of adulthood and the promise of the rest of her life. She’s an amazing athlete, a straight-A student, and as beautiful as she is on the outside, she is even more so on the inside. It will be so bittersweet to see her graduate this year, knowing it means fewer family times we’ll see her, and all the obligations and travel and hectic schedules that I’m sure college will bring her. Her senior year, I’m sure, will be one to treasure for those reasons.

Enjoy your senior years, and my best wishes to you both!

Really, I can’t imagine having three kids under the age of three–and all of them boys to boot! I have a feeling they will all be the best of friends growing up, but in the meantime, I’m sure you may want to pass along the coffee (and probably a sprinkle of patience) to their blessed parents!
Congrats, guys! Welcome Griffin (in stripes) and Owen (in stars).

Granted, she was born decades after the song came out (and it’s not spelled quite the same), but she is just one of the sweetest little girls I’ve ever worked with (and a ham to boot!)

During January, when I’m paying $4.99 for a half pint of soon-to-be moldy blueberries to use for pancakes or serve with lunch, I think of how amazing July is, when buckets of blueberries can be bought for practically the same cost. How I wish July could be spread out over half of the year–it’s by far my most favorite month. I must confess that perhaps a little of that is probably because my birthday’s this month, but as I’ve gotten older and wish for fewer birthdays, it’s become more about all of the amazing produce that’s in season during July.
If anyone drives past my house this afternoon and smells some deliciousness coming from my kitchen window, that would be the blueberry pie.

I’m behind in blogging, but knew I had some anxious parents (and soon-to-be parents!) waiting for their sneak peeks. (Sorry to keep you guys under such suspense! :) I’ve had such fun sessions lately–one-year-old triplets (!), an expectant couple (who weathered through several days of bad weather and a head injury–not them, one of my kiddos–before we could complete their session. I was so thankful their little one stayed put long enough for us to seek out that amazing light we found the other night); and one of Miss Madelyn, who is in the midst of her baby’s first year plan with me and just keeps on getting cuter and cuter each time I see her.

Last weekend, I was so lucky to be a part of a small workshop with two of America’s most noted newborn photographers. I learned some amazing tips and techniques, both with working with and posing newborns, but also creating beautiful color and black & white portraits. Since I’m working on catching up editing client sessions, I couldn’t edit too many images from the workshop as of yet, but here are a few portraits that I was just dying to blog that I took during our instruction and edited on the plane on the way home.

Suffice to say, I can’t wait for my next newborn session to try out some of my new tips and tricks.
