July 29th? Really? Already? Yet another summer that is in the midst of flying by again. I’m not sure if they went quicker when I was in school or since I started my business, but I do know that I sure wish it lasted longer. *sniff*
Believe it or not, I’m looking ahead to the fall and have been getting quite a few inquiries for holiday mini sessions. Although I haven’t officially put anyone on the calendar yet until I’ve gotten my card templates from my designers and have finalized my collections, the ‘08 sessions will be announced next week (or the following week at latest). These will take place through the month of November only (sorry, but I will not be doing any full-length sessions at all) and fill up very quickly, so please plan on booking early once they’re announced.
Speaking of filling up, my August and September calendars are now officially closed and I have about 2 more appointments left for October. If you’re thinking of booking a session in October, I do encourage you to contact me soon. I *hate* saying no to requests for sessions after a month is filled, and I’ve caved more times than I care to admit, but I promised myself I’d be good this year and stick with what I can handle.
P.S. Did I tell you I’d be at the Reading Family Expo at the Sovereign Center on November 1st and 2nd? I plan to be offering a generous door prize and have some fun stuff at my booth. I hope if you’ll be there that you’ll stop by and say hi! Look for more info as the date gets closer!
I admit it. This email warmed my heart today. I thought I’d share it with you. :)
Hey Jen,
I have been meaning to email you about the pictures but haven’t had a chance–they were all so AMAZING– thank you so much. I really appreciate your time and talent, thank you for coming all the way to us and for being so patient with our kids–we really had a great time and I just LOVED ALL of the pictures it was sooo hard to choose only a few to buy… Thank you for being willing to work with us. We just got our pictures in the mail and they are PERFECT!! I can’t wait to hang them or put them out on display.
We look forward to working with you again soon!!! Thanks again for all your help!
-April

I *adore* being able to work with families from one year to the next (I also worked with yesterday’s family last year, too). I couldn’t get over how much these two have grown in just one year’s time (last year’s session here), and smiled to myself after our session was over and wondered if Miss A (who, seriously, I think is a 40 year old trapped in a 4 year old’s body) thinks that the key to being a photographer is sticking kids in the tallest flowers or fields you can find. She’s always been such a willing subject, and I get such winning shots because of her amazing cooperation.
Her brother, I don’t think, is not quite as thrilled with my ideas of placing kids in fields or flowers, so he instead pushed his truck as far away from my camera as he could get. :)

I love a family who lets me capture them being them.

One of my oldest and closest friends came into town this week with her new baby, who I’ve been dying to meet (and photograph, too!). It’s her first baby, and for many years, she swore she wasn’t going to have any kids, even though she was by far the best of us with little ones. I knew hoped that she’d eventually change her mind, knowing that she make an incredible mom.
She’s traded Didion for Boynton in her literature of late, but I know she’s savoring every single moment (even the fussy ones–which there were, unfortunately, some of during our session this morning).
Here’s the beautiful product of changed minds (and the luckiest babe in the state of Ohio).

Delivered on Monday, beckoning from my dining room table since… I finally get to open it tonight. :)

Psst… If I get 34 comments below, I’ll give my 34th person a gift card (not from JB Photography, either. Well, unless you want it to be. :) I know, I know. I’m such a glutton for birthday wishes. ;)
Warning: I know a lot of you may read my blog either at work or with your kids in the room, so this is just a warning before you scroll down that below are a few images with some subtle nudity in them. If those types of images would offend you, please skip this post.
I am so looking forward to working with them again when little (as I’m sure she’s going to be judging by the size of her belly!) Madelyn arrives. Best wishes for a smooth L&D, J&J!

Was just as sweet and beautiful as her song.
My warmest congratulations and thanks for all your patience today, B&S. :)

And being this loved by your parents…

I met with these kids right before I left for vacation (you may remember their smiling faces here), but since Dad couldn’t be along that morning, we met this evening to do their family images. It still wasn’t quite that easy wrangling three little ones to fit into one camera frame, but that’s what high walls and group hugs are for.
(I loved a subtle vintage touch on this one…)
