Sunkissed

*sigh* You can tell it’s the end of summer when the tips of kids eyelashes and brows are bleached blonde. I’m sure they’re just as sad about summer ending as I am.

Well, then again, at least I don’t have to go back to school. :)

Somebody stop me…

…before I wind up posting their entire session as a sneak peek.

Can you get over those amazing blue eyes and just luscious blonde curls? She and her parents were just heavenly to work with and accommodated me in good humor the, um, ten times I said “just one more over there and we’re done.” (click, click, click) “Oh wait, what if we try this? Last spot, I swear!”

When you’re this cute, it’s hard to keep a photographer at bay. :)

Drew & Kelly’s slideshow

You know how they always come out with the coolest things after you’ve already been married or had a baby? Aren’t these presentation boxes just gorgeous? Therein lies 500 5×7 images from my first wedding, and what I hope will give Drew & Kelly lasting memories for the rest of their lives.

And their slideshow: please click

(quality’s a bit reduced.) Enjoy!

Client pretties

My client is getting two of her single image ribbon collages today, and I so love how they turned out that I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures. (As an aside, my daughter, showing her newly-found-exasperation-with-her-mother said, “Mom. Taking pictures of pictures?”

*sigh* I was so not expecting this at seven…)

(Ignore the bad product photography–it’s pretty dark in my house with these storms we’re getting today and I was too lazy to pop on my flash…)

Aren’t they cute? Clients get to choose their ribbon and the collage design. They’re so much fun for kids’ rooms, nurseries (especially a set of three above the crib or changing table) and as finishing pieces for those nooks around the house.

I guess I need to go take them down off my wall now, put my usual pictures back up, and get them all wrapped up and ready to leave for their new home. They do look so perfect hanging in that spot, don’t they? I’m sure they’ll look even better in the house where the kids actually live, LOL. :)

‘Tis the season to be (photographed)

Fa la la la la, la la, la, la! (Yeah, it seems a little weird to be singing that in shorts!)

Back by popular demand, I am excited to be announcing my holiday mini sessions for 2008. Taking place throughout the month of November, I will be booking a limited number of appointments on weekdays and weekends (weekend surcharge will be waived).

This year’s sessions include a four different collections with more options and choices than last year, as well as a new line of beautifully-designed holiday cards. Press-printed on heavy cardstock, holiday cards are sized at 5×7 and come in an elegant pearl, linen or standard finish with white envelopes, and are sure to impress every recipient on your list. (These are not your Target-style photo card–trust me!)

Collections are as follows:

While these sessions are shorter than my normal full-length sessions, they are not hurried as the next client waits impatiently over your shoulder, and they still give even the most timid kids plenty of time to warm up to me. I’ve done the cramped mall studios in November, and I’ve certainly seen my share of frustrated parents trying to get that perfect shot of their little ones in front of the tree. These sessions give you a wonderful opportunity to play with your kids and capture real, authentic and beautiful portraits of your children and family in a natural setting and a relaxed and playful environment that will remain timeless even after the tree is taken down and Aunt Josie’s sweater is returned.

To see the full range of card designs for 2008, as well as get more information on the mini sessions, please visit my holiday guide, located at http://www.jenniferbretonphotography.com/holiday

Baby in a basket, part II

There’s obviously lots of things I love about my work, but one thing in particular is seeing babies grow from one session to the next. I spend so much time studying their faces as I’m proofing their sessions, so I truly do wonder how they’ll look and change and grow from one session to the next. Yesterday and today, I met with freshly-turned six month olds that I photographed as newborns in February. This baby is the subject of one of my favorite newborn shots ever as he snoozed ever so soundly in my basket:

Six months later, here’s today’s basket shot:

And of course others from our session. I have to post at least one showing his adorable chub. Oh my goodness, as soon as I saw him this morning, I was squealing in delight over how cute he was going to look showing all of his scrumptious baby rolls. My, how I do love my job.

Five-and-a-half months later,

this baby went from this here to this below:

Even more adorable, huh? Here are a few others from our session today:

More of an outtake than a portrait, but I just had to include it on the blog. His expression completely cracks me up. “Hey! You done yet?”

Defining moments

Many of you know that I lost my mother three years ago to lung cancer. She was a non-smoker, and only 52 years old when she passed away. My grandmother–my mom’s mom–also died at 52 of ovarian cancer. Six months prior to my mother’s death, Joe lost his mom to breast cancer at the age of 71. I mention these things not because I look for sympathy, but simply because they are as defining moments in my life as the birth of my children and the marriage to my husband.

Since those things happened, I have wanted to do more than just give money to cancer research, and have explored and tossed around various ways to do so with my photography. Several months ago, I stumbled across this organization, called Flashes of Hope, which is a network of volunteer photographers who take uplifting pictures of kids with cancer or other life-threatening diseases. Immediately, I knew I had found a perfect fit.

Today, I went to Camp Can-Do, which is an American Cancer Society sponsored event at Gretna Glen in Mt. Gretna. In addition to week-long activities that include swimming, canoeing, fishing, etc. for kids who are currently battling cancer or are in remission, Flashes of Hope was asked to be a part of the day’s arrival activities.

Today, I had the infinite honor of photographing these amazing young boys and girl–all of them a true joy to meet. I hope they enjoyed our short sessions just as much as I did.

Occasionally…

I get asked to do extended family pictures. But even though the “big” family pictures are always the greater challenge in trying to get little kids, their parents and grandparents all looking and smiling at the camera at the same time, it’s that little perfect moment with just two kiddos that always gives me the greatest sense of accomplishment. I love how their mom just smiled when she saw the back of my LCD screen after this capture.

And here’s the whole family (all such a warm family too, by the way)…

Availability and holiday mini sessions update

July 29th? Really? Already? Yet another summer that is in the midst of flying by again. I’m not sure if they went quicker when I was in school or since I started my business, but I do know that I sure wish it lasted longer. *sniff*

Believe it or not, I’m looking ahead to the fall and have been getting quite a few inquiries for holiday mini sessions. Although I haven’t officially put anyone on the calendar yet until I’ve gotten my card templates from my designers and have finalized my collections, the ‘08 sessions will be announced next week (or the following week at latest). These will take place through the month of November only (sorry, but I will not be doing any full-length sessions at all) and fill up very quickly, so please plan on booking early once they’re announced.

Speaking of filling up, my August and September calendars are now officially closed and I have about 2 more appointments left for October. If you’re thinking of booking a session in October, I do encourage you to contact me soon. I *hate* saying no to requests for sessions after a month is filled, and I’ve caved more times than I care to admit, but I promised myself I’d be good this year and stick with what I can handle.

P.S. Did I tell you I’d be at the Reading Family Expo at the Sovereign Center on November 1st and 2nd? I plan to be offering a generous door prize and have some fun stuff at my booth. I hope if you’ll be there that you’ll stop by and say hi! Look for more info as the date gets closer!
